Dear Friend,
The Automotive Manufacturing Technical Education Collaborative (AMTEC) National Center of Excellence in Advance Automotive Manufacturing is funded by the National Science Foundation as an Advance Technological Education Center. We were designed and are established as a recognized collaboration of community colleges and automotive original equipment manufacturers and suppliers working to strengthen the competency and global competitiveness of our automotive manufacturing and service technology. To address these global challenges, AMTEC has partnered with DEKRA Akademie GmbH, which consists of automotive manufacturers, educators and the German Ministry to create a Global Automotive Technical Education Network. This global structure of collaboration enables our stakeholders all over the world to follow strategies for proper implementation and continuous improvement of educational structures which match the needs of worldwide automotive production/service. At the same time it takes into account the specific contexts of national environments which determine the ways of implementation. Within this global approach, research, benchmarking, and networking will provide research based data to address current and future workforce competencies.
AMTEC has implemented an innovative collaboration of colleges and industry that educates current and future workers with the skills needed for a prosperous automotive industry. By providing industry endorsed and scientifically valid standards as well as innovative competency based modularized curriculum and assessments, we have created an effective collaboration of industry and colleges that will provide effective education of workers that will be prized by the industry. The National Governors Association (NGA), through case study, has selected AMTEC as a model and National Best Practice. NGA states that “The AMTEC story shows that it is possible for governors to work collaboratively with industry, with community colleges, and with each other to provide people with the opportunity to build their technical skills and ensure both America’s future prosperity and their own economic security”, (A Sharper Focus On Technical Workers, How to Educate and Train for the Global Economy, Martin, et. al. 2010).
AMTEC reflects the future because the future involves a very different kind of technical worker, a very different kind of partnership, and a very different kind of education. As a collaborative we are excited about the future as we ignite our students, educate them to compete, and as they accelerate into the competent workforce of our future.
Kindest Regards,
Annette Parker
